"RECLINING NUDE called THE DREAMER (1917)"

which is part of a private collection.

     L'original de cette oeuvre faisait partie de l'importante rétrospective consacrée à Modigliani qui a été présentée à Paris au Musée du Luxembourg entre Octobre 2002 et Mars 2003. Si vous avez eu l'occasion d'observer cette oeuvre, vous n'avez pu manquer de remarquer l'aspect boursouflé de la peau du modèle, dû à une mauvaise conservation ou plus vraisemblablement à l'usage par Modigliani de bitume pour la préparation du fond. J'ai donc pris la liberté, que j'assume entièrement, de restituer à la peau l'aspect doux et sensuel qu'elle mérite et qu'à mon avis elle devait présenter il y a près d'un siècle.

     Modigliani's original work was part of the important retrospective of his works which was shown in Paris at the Luxembourg Museum, from October 2002 to March 2003. If you had the opportunity to observe it, you certainly didn't fail to notice that the model seemed affected by some skin disease. It is quite reasonable to think that this effect is the result of bad conservation over the years or more likely,  of the use by Modigliani of bitumen in the preparation of the underlayer. That is why I took the liberty to soften the skin to make it sane and sensual as I think it deserves - and as it certainly was nearly a century ago.
