Cet étrange portrait fut peint par Modigliani durant sa période cubiste. Il est accroché au Musée de l'Orangerie à Paris auprès d' "Antonia", autre portrait dans la même veine. Si l'on en juge par les ressemblances dans les détails et la structure de la tête, il s'agit certainement dans les deux cas du même modèle mystérieux et non identifié.

     Avant de commencer la reproduction à gauche ci-dessus , l’original fut minutieusement étudié au Musée par JT et des photos furent prises afin d'en assurer une authenticité maximum. Outre le blanc, il était évident que Modigliani avait ici utilisé seulement trois couleurs - l'ocre jaune, le vermillon et le noir - et comme souvent, sa pâte était très grasse; ces caractéristiques furent respectées lors de la réalisation de cette reproduction.

     Quant à la reproduction de droite, elle fut à l'origine réalisée par CG d’après la rare documentation disponible alors que le Musée de l’Orangerie était fermé pour travaux depuis plusieurs années. Elle fut ensuite quelque peu remaniée après la réouverture du Musée et l'étude de l'original sur place.

     This curious portrait by Modigliani was done during his "cubist" period and hangs in the Orangerie Museum next to his well-known "Antonia".  Both may well be of same mysterious and unknown woman, as there are definite similarities in the structure of the head and features.

     Before the reproduction shown here-above on the left  was undertaken,  the original was carefully studied by JT in the Museum, and photos were taken of it in order to assure the greatest authenticity. It was detected that Modigliani only used three colours, other than white, for this work : yellow ochre, vermillion, and black. And, as so often the case, his paint was of a very high oil content. All these factors were respected in the realisation of this reproduction.

     As for the reproduction here on the right, it was painted by CG from the rare documentation available at the time the Orangerie Museum had been closed for several years. It's only after the recent re-opening of the Museum that the original could finally be examined and CG's reproduction was then slightly corrected for more authenticity.
